FCCLA Region 11 holds annual meeting

A total of 56 members of the Purdy Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) attended the Missouri Region 11 Meeting.

Held Oct. 19 at the Joplin High School Performing Arts Center, more than 480 students, advisers, and guests attended the event.

The meeting began with the introduction of the region’s executive council: President Alyssa Hobson from East Newton, 1st Vice President of STAR Events Avery Minor from Northeast Vernon County, Secretary Kyla Porter from Liberal, Treasurer Kennedy Lanore from East Newton, Reporter Hidie Tripp from Lockwood, Parliamentarian Natalie Sarratt from Neosho, Officer of Membership Nikki Hensley from Webb City, and State President Charity Middleton from Northeast Vernon County. The meeting was called to order by Alyssa Hobson.

Joplin High School presented flags followed by the national anthem. Hidie Tripp led the devotion, speaking about prioritizing time.

Katie’s House, the region’s service project, was introduced by Minor, and a Miracle Minute was conducted for Katie’s House, in which $427.23 was collected.

Chapters also brought baby bottles with collected change and items. FCCLA Region 11 raised a total of $1,111.63 and collected 184 items, with the Purdy FCCLA Chapter raising $371.65 of the total. Honorary Member Awards were presented by Nikki Hensley and Natalie Sarratt to Kaylynn Harris and Jennie Hearting for their dedication and assistance to FCCLA.

Distinguished Service Awards were presented by Charity Middleton and Kennedy Lanore to Mrs. Laurie Bybee and Mrs. Ardith Waggoner for their contributions to FCCLA as advisors. Alumni Achievement Award was presented by Kyla Porter and Hidie Tripp to Mrs. Angela Helman for involvement in her community.

The meeting was wrapped up with a guest speaker, recognition of national STAR event participants, roll, and updates. Natalie Sarratt introduced Matthew Hutson who spoke about the power of your choices and how they impact your future.

Nikki Hensley recognized National STAR event participants. Chapter roll call was led by Kyla Porter and state and national updates by Charity Middleton. Alyssa Hobson called the meeting to close.
