Wheaton volleyball relying on youth
With two sophomores offering the most returning varsity experience to the Wheaton volleyball team, the Lady Bulldogs are finding their footing as a squad this season. Cheyanne Gudgell, in her first year as head coach in Wheaton, said the team’s goals this season are simple.

September 13, 2023 Roaring River’s waters are at 10.7 CFS and low and clear, so the dry fly fishing has been very good. There are still good caddis hatches every day and blue wing olives every afternoon.

Cassville pushes past Aurora in gritty contest
The Cassville football team overcame a slate of second-half adversity to secure its second win over the season on Friday, defeating Aurora, 22-19. Physicality was the Wildcats’ biggest worry going into the game, and the contest was a gritty battle to the final snap.

6 seniors lead deep Wildcats squad
Following its first winning season and first playoff win in a decade, the Cassville boys soccer team is entering a new era. Led this season by six seniors and eight returning starters, the Wildcats have set their goals higher than ever.
Scoreboard, Sept. 6
The Cassville softball team will play its first regular-season home tilt on Thursday, taking on Marshfield at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Wildcats have struggled against stiff competition in the season’s early goings. In the 29th Annual Morrisville Tournament, Cassville topped West Plains, 10-3. Since that Aug. 25 matchup, the Lady Wildcats have eluded victory, falling to Sherwood, 4-0; Carthage, 4-1; Carl Junction, 8-4; and Nevada, 14-0. Cassville played Logan-Rogersville on the road Tuesday after presstime and faces Marshfield Thursday.

7 seniors strong
It has been six years since the Cassville volleyball program turned in an above .500 season, and it will be seven seniors on this year’s squad aiming to put their names in the record books. The Lady Wildcats’ season began on Aug.

Cassville puts win in past, readies for big Houn’ Dawgs
A focused and determined start to Saturday’s home contest with Hollister developed into a 44-6 win for the Cassville football team in a contest between two young squads learning their lines. Clay Weldy, Cassville football coach, said he was pleased with the result, and with how his young guns played in the season’s first game.

Fast and fortified
A lone senior will lead the Cassville softball team on the diamond this season, with the Lady Wildcats looking to utilize their speed and defensive prowess to have a shot at a district title in consecutive seasons. Lori Videmschek, Cassville softball coach, said Cassville is returning six starters from the 16-12 squad that fell to Seneca in the Class 3, District 6 championship last season.
