Crawford captured in Springfield
The second of three Barry County jail escapees has been captured. Matthew Crawford, of Springfield, was captured in Springfield on Monday by Greene County Sheriff’s Office deputies and U.S. Marshals, assisted by Springfield Police.

Exeter purchases new K-5 reading textbooks
The Exeter school district will purchase new reading textbooks for students from pre-K to sixth grade to replace outdated materials. Tim Jordan, Exeter superintendent, said the district was able to utilize some of the ESSER funds that were meant to help with learning loss during the pandemic to make the purchase.
Exeter deals with maintenance
The city of Exeter will see a water rate increase, repairs on the master controller and remote receiver on both well houses, and the Exeter chief of police will allow time to focus on ordinance violations in the city limits.

Reaching those who need help
Across the nation, American citizens are dealing with an epidemic with the most heartbreaking of effects — overdoses.
According to the CDC there were 70,630 drug overdose deaths in the United States in 2019, with nearly 850,000 overdose deaths since 1999.
School Fair comes back to Barry County
For more than two decades, the OACAC Barry County neighborhood center has been hosting a school fair to help children in the area start off the school year on the right foot. Gail Reed, OACAC Barry County neighborhood market supervisor, said the sign-ups for the school fair will be open from May 31 to July 7.
Three indicted for large-scale meth conspiracy
Three defendants have indicted by a federal grand jury for their roles in an alleged conspiracy to distribute large amounts of methamphetamine in south west Missouri after law enforcement officers seized approximately 29 pounds of methamphetamine.
