Fire safety week educates youth

An annual fall tradition in Cassville for 29 years, The Show will see 21 participants singe 24 songs this year, all backed up by locals in the Hometown Sound and the Red Hots band. Greg Beck, speaking on behalf of The Show’s participants, said the theme for this year is “Sampler.” “There is such a wide mix of music this year,” he said.
Cassville utility rates changing for some
The Cassville City Council voted this month to leave water and sewer rates the same as they are, though about 55 percent of customers will still see a change to their monthly rates. David Brock, Cassville Public Works director, recommended to the board that no changes be made to water and sewer rates this year.
Local woman beats breast cancer
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, and Marcie McDaniel, a 65-year-old Wheaton woman, was one. McDaniel has worked at Cassville Mercy Hospital as the Environmental Services Lead for 7 years.
Double the cooks!
The annual Chili and Salsa Cook-Off in Cassville is set for this weekend, and with about twice as many participants as last year. Morgan Williamson, director of the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce said 15 people have signed up for the chili competition, and seven will put their salsas to the test in the “Grease”themed event.

Tragedy at Roaring River State Park
KISS Rebreathers divers gathered at Roaring River Spring Friday morning for what was meant to be a day of preparation for the team’s planned second record-breaking dive into Roaring River Cave on Saturday. Instead, the day turned tragic when, shortly after submerging, 27-year-old Eric Hahn, of Blacksburg, Va., suffered from what appeared to be the effects of oxygen toxicity.
Cassville dentist dies in ATV wreck
A Kimberling City man who practiced dentistry in Cassville died in a wreck at 7:55 p.m. on Oct. 8 on Joe Bald Road, two miles southwest of Kimberling City.
Cancer no match for man
Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer next to skin cancer. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, there are about 264,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer annually.
Triumph!
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women, but over the years, more and more women are fighting and surviving the disease. Gayle Daniels, a 64-year-old woman living in Exeter, was first diagnosed in February 2014 — with no family history of the disease.
