Purdy FBLA Students Excel at National Leadership Conference
The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) held their annual National Leadership Conference in Chicago June 29 through July 2. Two Purdy students earned a spot to compete at the National level after third place wins at the State FBLA Conference in April. Senior M’kena Propps and Freshman Nathan Harris traveled to Chicago with Adviser Emily Kooi to compete at the highest level. Propps returned with a 6th place finish in Client Service. Propps competed in a preliminary pool of 78 students from across the nation before moving on to the final round where she earned 6th place. Purdy FBLA is guided by Advisers Kay Wright and Kooi. June food service report released
The Health Department divides food service code violations into two categories; Priority and Core items. Priority items are more likely than other violations to contribute to food contamination, or illness and/or injury.

50 years ago July 26, 1972 The Cassville R-4 School District board of directions met Monday night and adopted their 1972-73 budget, which called for expenditures of $1,007.631. Johnnie Saunders was elected president of the Southwest Saddle Club at Washburn, organized last Friday.
Students compete in Big 8 Art Show
Art students at Cassville Middle School recently brought home 51 ribbons, including 16 first place ribbons, from the Big 8 Art Show at the MARC in Mt. Vernon. Shelter Insurance Foundation scholarship recipients announced
The Shelter Insurance Foundation awarded a $1,500 scholarship to Emilee Mann and Pa Vang, graduates of Cassville and Wheaton high schools, respectively. Shelter Agent Terri DeGraffenreid Brattin sponsors and partially funds this scholarship.

50 years ago July 5, 1972 Cassville Football Coach Ron Cole is planning a pre-season football camp for this year’s Wildcats to be held during the next two weeks. Assisting him will be coaches Danny Lynch, Charles Pitts and Heno Head.
Southwest team 4th in nation
The Southwest FFA Soils team competed in Oklahoma City on May 5 at the National Soils Contest, where the team placed 4th in the nation. Team members are Macy Colf, Allen Hendrix, Caleb Ayer and Lilly Wolf. Ayer placed 13th individually. Contributed photo

Independence Day is just around the corner. It has caused me to meditate on the word "autonomous." Autonomous vehicles, once only fiction, now are a reality.
Pet of the Week
Meet Binnie Taylor, the Haven of the Ozarks Pet of the Week. Binnie had a terrible start in life, but that just means he’ll appreciate it even more when he finds the perfect family to love him. He’s a bit timid and needs someone to help him build his confidence, but he’s doing better all the time. He never had any accidents while in his foster home. Binnie is good in a crate, loves toys and gets along with both cats and other dogs. He gets a daily supplement for hip dysplasia and would really benefit from an indoor home with a comfy bed.
