Purdy hosts Student Development Day

Purdy High School held its first Student Professional Development Day on Friday, offering students in grades 9-12 a unique opportunity to gain valuable life and career skills.

The day began with a keynote address from guest speaker Ed Mareth, who encouraged students to “be the best they can be” by sharing success stories of Purdy graduates who have achieved great things beyond high school.

Following the opening session, students rotated through nine interactive workshops covering practical and professional skills, including employee etiquette, hair and skin care, pressing a shirt, tying a tie, and learning to dance.

Sessions were led by Purdy High School teachers alongside community partners and guest presenters:

• First State Bank of Purdy – Financial literacy and banking basics

• Dusty Stanley, 4S Flower Farm – Floral arranging

• Valerie Bennett, N.P. – Caring for common illnesses

• Deanna Cecenas, Creative Therapy Center (Monett) – Goal setting and stress management • Caitlin Stanley & Leah Smith, Christine’s House of Style – Hair and skin care

• Dr. Sam Harkey, All About Pets – Caring for your pet A special thank you goes to 4 States Stockyards and Chris Hammen, with Shelter Insurance, who sponsored lunch for all participants.

“This first Student PD Day was an incredible success,” organizers said in a press release. “It provided real-world skills that students will use both now and in the future.”
