Are you ready for the rootin’-est, tootin’est State Representative race this side of the Mississsippi? Our local candidates, Democrat Christopher Foster, at left, and Republican Scott Cupps, at right, made a big splash in social media this week, gracing the McDonald County Press Facebook page with their impressive chops! Of the more than 1,700 comments, our favorites include: “The candidates will be meeting for a duel on the courthouse steps at high noon,” “When’s the election? 1865?,” “The best way to win is to be both candidates,” “I just cast my vote, waiting for pony express to pick it up,” “They look like this: ‘This town ain’t big enough for the two of us,’” “What are their positions on locomotives?,” and, of course, “What in tarnation?” No matter their positions, we’re declaring Cupps and Foster both winners. My boss, Kyle Troutman, knows a thing or two about beards, and he approves of this matchup of mutton!
