Josh Kinnaman: Wheaton School Board Election Questionnaire

Age: 41

Current Occupation: City of Wheaton Utilities Superintendent

Past Experience: 6 Years as Wheaton School Board Member

Education: Wheaton Graduate, and multiple different kinds of continuing education

1. Why do you want to win this position?

To continue working with, and supporting the Superintendent, in maintaining the financial stability of the district along with being a voice for the community.

2. If elected, what is your number one goal on the school board?

The role of a school board member is to work with the Superintendent to determine the best, and most responsible usage of the schools funding to support the students. This can be anything from facilities, staffing or educational needs.

3. What areas of the school district do you think need improvement?

We will always need to continue updating, improving, and streamlining our curriculum to ensure that students are getting the best education possible. Facility improvements will always be required as well.

4. What capital projects do you believe the district should pursue?

Over the past few years, we have been able to build a new cafeteria/tornado shelter to help protect students in inclement weather. We have also been able to add a field house to help with scheduling practices and other community uses. Our next projects would need to be maintenance and upkeep of our existing facilities. Updating heating and cooling, roofing, etc.

5. What do you feel is most important for raising the quality of education provided by Wheaton schools?

Teacher retainage and keeping class sizes as small as possible. This is not always easy to do, especially in small districts where we rely heavily on state and federal funding.
