Evan Craig, with Jeff Myers Construction, cleans off brass door fittings for the Barry County Courthouse’s courtroom on Thursday. The renovation project, which began in late October 2025, is set to be completed by the end of this month or early February. The project cost is $218,000, and it is being funded by interest gained from American Rescue Plan Act funds the county previously invested. Kyle Troutman/[email protected]As part of the Barry County Courthouse courtroom renovation, discovered on the second floor, which has been closed since about the 1980s, were numerous etchings and carvings in the pillars, including these with hearts and initials. While the surfaces were touched up, Northern Commissioner Gary Schad said crews did their best to preserve the carvings as much as possible. Kyle Troutman/[email protected]
