Shell Knob man arrested for fatal wreck on Hwy. 39

A Shell Knob man has been arrested following the death of a pedestrian in a hit-and-run incident at 9:16 p.m. on Sept. 17 on Highway 39 in Shell Knob.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, a southbound 2006 Lincoln Towncar, being driven by a 56-year-old male, struck a pedestrian, a 35-year-old woman, of Springfield, in the roadway on Highway 36 in Shell Knob.

The pedestrian was transported to Mercy Hospital and pronounced dead at 11:08 p.m. by Dr. Plate.

The vehicle fled the scene after the incident. This is the 96th fatality for Troop D of the Patrol, which covers 18 counties in southwest Missouri, including Barry.

According to a Patrol arrest report, Troy Bryant, 56, of Shell Knob, was arrested on Sept. 19 and charged with felony leaving the scene of a crash resulting in a fatality.

According to a probable cause statement filed by Cpl. Travis Coffey, with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, on Sept. 19, at about 6:05 p.m., he contacted Bryant in regards to the incident on Sept. 17. Bryant was identified as the driver who allegedly struck Danielle Green, 35, of Springfield, who died as a result of injuries from being struck by the vehicle.

Coffey said Bryant allegedly admitted to hitting Green, saying he pulled over immediately, then left the scene to go home. He then stayed home and did not call authorities, Coffey said.

During the interview, Bryant allegedly said he knew he hit someone with his vehicle and she had died from the injuries he caused.
