Two Cassville residents were arrested on Monday morning after one allegedly fled from Cassville police for the second time in two days.
Donald Privett, Cassville police chief, said on Sunday, an officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the city, and the adult male driver allegedly fled to a residence on Oakhill Drive, fled into the house and then fled out the back door, evading capture.
The same vehicle was spotted by another officer on County Farm Road Monday morning, again allegedly fleeing an attempted traffic stop.
“It was the same car, and we assume it’s the same driver,” Privett said. “When the officer spotted the vehicle and turned around, the car floored it and there was a short pursuit to the residence. A witness said the car hit the driveway so fast it bottomed out and nearly hit the house. There was a juvenile [female under the age of 16] in the vehicle at the time.”
Privett said the driver and juvenile exited the vehicle and went inside the residence. When police requested entry, another adult female locked the door and barricaded the individuals inside.
Privett said officers forced entry and arrested the male and female adults. The juvenile, he said, was placed into custody of the Department of Family Services and transported to a family member.
Privett said the Cassville Police Department is filing for felony charges against the adult male for both pursuits, as well as endangering the welfare of a child since the juvenile was in the vehicle on Monday.
The suspects did not have any weapons, and no one was injured.
A Cassville Police Department patrol vehicle did sustain damage to a front tire and wheel during the pursuit.
Identities of the individuals arrested and potential charges were not available at press time.
