Third grade students participating in summer school recently completed a novel study of “The Lemonade War” by Jacqueline Davies. As part of the unit, students explored basic economic concepts such as supply and demand, marketing, and profit — all while learning how to run a small business. To put their knowledge into action, students hosted a school-wide lemonade stand on June 17 open to summer school students and the local community. Thanks to the incredible support from families, staff and community members, the students raised a total of $646.85. The students then chose to donate all proceeds to the Haven of the Ozarks, a local animal shelter that serves the Barry County community. “We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents, students, and community members who participated, donated, and supported this project,” said Patty Ewing, third-grade teacher. “Your generosity made this event a true success and helped our students turn learning into realworld impact.” Contributed photo
