Area teen charged with burglarizing shop
A Monett 18-year-old is facing three felonies and a misdemeanor after allegedly smashing the window of a Cassville business and stealing marijuana from inside.
Jeremiah Williams, 18, of Monett, is charged with second-degree burglary, first-degree property damage, resisting arrest and misdemeanor stealing.
According to a probable cause statement filed by Officer Codie Evatt, with the Cassville Police Department, officer were dispatched at a business inside the city limits at 12:26 a.m. on June 16 for a possible burglary in progress.
Upon arrival, Evatt said he observed two subjects running away from the business, and he began pursuing a subject while giving commands to stop running.
Evatt ultimately caught the individual, identified as Williams, and placed him into custody.
Williams allegedly confessed to throwing a rock through the business’ window and stealing multiple products from inside. Authorities recovered four marijuana pre-rolls, priced at $6.99 each.
The window damaged during the incident is valued at $1,000.
Evatt said Williams disclosed the identity of the other suspect involved, and that suspect’s name is redacted from the probable cause statement.
Cassville Police Chief Donnie Privett said Cassville police are preparing to request charges and a warrant for the second suspect involved.
Williams is being held in the Barry County jail on a cash-only bond of $7,500.
A bond hearing is set for June 3 at 9 a.m. in the courtroom of Judge Robert Foulke.
