PURDY SCHOOL BOARD QUESTIONNAIRE: Josh Conner

Age: 40

Current Occupation: EO Supervisor at Balchem in Verona

Past Experience: 10 years with Balchem, 8 of those being a Union Representative

Education: Cassville High School graduate and attended Crowder College

1. Why do you want to be on the school board, and what qualifications support your candidacy?

I would like to be elected because I have three children, two of which are in the school, and one that will start next year. It is important to me that they have the best education in a safe and welcoming environment. I served as a union steward before I took on my new supervisor role. The steward job consisted of union members coming to me with problems. We would work together through the differences and negotiating contracts with the company.

2. If elected, what do you see as your top priorities?

I want to support teachers and staff and ensure they are free to teach without fear of political interferences. I want to make sure parents, staff, and students have their voices heard by encouraging their involvement in beneficial school programs. I want to empower parents to make the best educational decisions for their children. The safety of our children is very important as well as investing in our school to enhance technology.

3. What will be your approach to managing the district’s finances?

I will ensure that our taxpayers’ money is put to the best use, by weighing options, listening to the concerns of the community, and staff within the school. I will actively listen and ask questions when more information is needed. I will make certain that the children’s education and safety always comes first when making financial decisions.

4. Are there specific areas of the budget you like to cut, or any areas you would fund more?

Concerning the budget, my top priority will be to make sure the basic needs of the school are met first. For example, hiring and keeping quality teachers, building maintenance, and classroom resources and curriculum to ensure the safety and education of each student is met.

5. What is the most important factor in graduating successful students from Purdy?

Giving students opportunities to gain prior experience in possible career fields will help students before entering the workforce. This will aid them in deciding what career path they will take post-graduation.

6. What (if any) capital projects would you like to pursue if elected?

If budget and funding allowed, I would love to see a track and cross-country course built for our student athlete’s. This would ensure their safety while practicing.
