Back-to-school information released

City of Washburn offering limb disposal area

The city of Washburn will allow residents to bring any tree limbs damaged by recent storms to the corner of County Road and Farm Road 1065, the City Lagoon, for disposal on Sept. 9 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Roaring River State Park hosts Kids Free Fishing Day Aug. 19

Anglers can make their way to Roaring River State Park Saturday for Kids Free Fishing Day. Everyone 15 and under will be able to get free tags the day of the event from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. A section of the river, from the first low-water crossing up toward the hatchery, will be specially designated for youth to fish in throughout the day. Adults will not be allowed to fish by themselves in this area. Parents and guardians are welcome to help the children as needed, but only one pole between the helper and the kid may be used at any time. Volunteers also will be present to help. A free lunch of hot dogs, chips and drink will be provided by the park concessionaire in the lower section of the CCC Lodge. The event will be held rain or shine, assuming conditions are deemed safe. Regular fishing hours are from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in August. This is a joint event held in conjunction with Missouri Department of Conservation. Roaring River State Park is located 7 miles south of Cassville on Highway 112 in Barry County.

BCGHS meeting Saturday in Cassville

Jim Lassiter will present the program at the Barry County Genealogical and Historical Society meeting on Saturday at the Bayless/Salyer House in Cassville. The meeting begins at 1 p.m. The program will be followed by a planning meeting for fall activities including a trip to Belvedere House in Claremore, Okla., Holiday Craft Fair in November and Cookies and Milk with Santa in December. All members of the community are welcome to attend.

Wheaton Class of 1973 meeting Aug. 26 at BBQ

The Wheaton High School Class of 1973 invites family, friends, former classmates and neighbors to stop in the shade by Railroad Depot Museum, located at 311 Main St., during 65th Annual Wheaton BBQ. Plans are flexible and will be determined by those there. The group aims to to be there from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, people may contact Ron Renkoski at 608-242-7321.

Cassville Farmers’ Market open twice per week

The Cassville Farmers’ Market is open for the season, running twice a week on Tuesdays from 4-7 p.m. across from Security Bank and Saturdays on the Cassville Square from 8 a.m. to noon. The market offers local fresh cut flowers, produce, eggs, baked goods, hand made crafts and more. For more information, people may call 417-846-3539.

Cassville Branch Library events scheduled

Activities at the Cassville Branch Library this week include: Thursday, Toastmasters, 6 p.m. (adults); Friday, Chair Exercise at 9 a.m. (adults); Saturday, Movie Under the Stars at dusk next to the Roaring River Park Store (all ages); Monday, Chair Exercise at 9 a.m. (adults); “Taking Care of You” session three at 2 p.m.; Tuesday, Trivia at 1:30 p.m. (teens/adults). Registration is also now open for fall preschool storytime and homeschool enrichment sessions.

Old Church Gallery Farmers’ Market open
