Ruth (Doke) Henderson: Southwest School Board Questionnaire

1. Why do you want to win this position?

I graduated from Southwest, my kids graduated from Southwest and I have nieces and nephews attending Southwest; And I want to support the community.

2. If elected, what is your No. 1 goal on the school board?

Keeping the kids safe and their education.

3. What areas of the school district do you think need improvement?

I think getting more parents involved in the kids education.

4. What do you feel is most important for raising the quality of education provided by Southwest schools?

I think having good teachers that are at the school that get involved with all the kids education. Southwest has a great group of teachers that I think is getting the kids back on track after Covid. I think it might take a couple years for it to show.

5. Taking into account current bond issue construction projects, what other capital projects do you think the school should pursue?

I think having more space were the kids don’t have to change buildings. I think this would help with keeping the school safer.

6. Is the district’s communication with parents satisfactory or does it need work? What makes it work, or how would you improve it?

I think Communication with parents can always be improved no matter how good it is.

7. What classes or programs would you like to see added?

I would like to see more after school programs that would help kids that need more help in the class rooms.

8. How do you hope to help students succeed after graduation?

Educating more kids on a 2 year degree or Certifications for the ones that don’t want to go to a 4 year college. There are a lot of jobs out there that pay good and doesn’t require a 4 year degree.
