Four months ago, I heard a St. Louis surgeon tell me he planned to stop my daughter’s heart, patch two holes, then start her back up and set her on a path to full recovery.

The 2022-2023 school year is well underway, and we are excited about the many exceptional programs within our district. The start of our school year has been a great one so far.

During these times of many groups thinking they could run our Constitutional government, a review of a flag story is undoubtedly appropriate. The American Legion Magazine has told a story that will outdo any auto agency or those displaying large flags of the United States of America.

There are few feelings as great as coming up with an ambitious idea, pursuing it and seeing it through with a successful result. Today’s opinion page is the epitome of that feeling.

To be truthful, this column is somewhat of a repeat, due to the instance of history connected to the Ray family. Bear with me! About this time of the year, 150 years ago, my great grandfather started the Cassville Democrat.

I’ve noticed our community handles adversity well. We rally around our own, and you don’t see that everywhere.

Last weekend, I made the trek to Osage Beach for the annual Missouri Press Association Convention, stomach in knots with every turn that I would leave empty-handed. In a sense, I did, as this was the first year in the last eight — my entire eligible career in Missouri — that neither the Monett Times nor Cassville Democrat won a Gold Cup.

Just as quickly as this year has gone by, the fall season is upon us, and all around there are sure signs of one of the best seasons going for this part of the woods. If you don’t think the color change in the forests that surround us isn’t just around the corner, drive down to the Roller Nursery growing grounds south of Washburn and see some of the young trees getting ahead of their elders out in the woods in converting to the Flaming Fall Review.

When I was a freshman in college, I bought myself a new cell phone. I had it all planned out.

With the revelations coming out of Roaring River these days, another door has been opened for the state park that will only add another attraction in luring more visitors to the facility that continues to lead Missouri’s park system in popularity.
