A Barry County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured early Sunday morning in a wreck at 12:45 a.m. on Highway 76, three miles north of Shell Knob.

New group in Cassville continues to work on receiving federal grants It all started when a Cassville native married a northwest Arkansas native, and they brought a business plan to Cassville. The Hive Youth Outreach opened in January of this year.

Cassville Crowder welcomes new director
The Cassville Crowder campus wished well to Angela Seymour, former campus director, on June 30 when she retired, but the new director Sarah Smith was welcomed on June 6. Smith grew up in Shell Knob and graduated from Cassville High School in 2011.
Washburn water and sewer rates increase
The city of Washburn recently raised its water and sewer rates at the beginning of the month. Emily Arnett, Washburn city clerk, said the water rates went up $1, and the sewer rates went up 50 cents.
Shakin’ with the students
Shakin’ in the Shell has been a huge community event for many years, and this year, there will be an even sweeter touch. Kellie Davis, Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce director, said she had the idea to have students design the T-shirt for this year.

Purdy School District approves raises for nearly half of staff
Purdy schools have approved raises for nearly half of the school staff. Following a pay scale increase for teachers last year, School Superintendent Travis Graham said he and the school board wanted to ensure that the school’s classified staff, which includes non-teaching positions like maintenance, janitorial and paraprofessionals, receive a competitive wage from the district. “We live in very volatile times and we believe it is good to pay a fair wage and we had the financial availability,” Graham said.
