Lady Wildcats move to 12-5

The Cassville girls basketball team completed a three game week, playing Monday at Forsyth, Tuesday at home against Springfield Catholic and Thursday at Pleasant Hope. The Lady Wildcats ended the week 3-0 and moving their record on the season to 12-5. Cassville now moves back to conference play for their next three games, starting with hosting Lamar and Seneca at home this week. Cassville defeated Forsyth, 48-19, with Alex Holycross putting up 17 points, Taylor Kennedy scoring 9, Briley Artherton adding 8, Aubrey Stoufer contributing 5, Audrey Kennedy scoring 4, Tomi Blankenship logging 2, Sammi Stockton getting 2 and Aubrie Atkinson getting 1. The Lady Wildcats defeated Springfield Catholic, 53-33. Taylor Kennedy led in scoring with 23, Holycross added 11, Artherton scored 11, Audrey Kennedy added 6 and Stoufer got 2. Finally, Cassville defeated Pleasant Hope, 65-17. Audrey Kennedy led with 20, Artherton scored 11, Holycross added 10, Scott scored 10, Taylor Kennedy contributed 6, Stoufer scored 5 and Addy Ramaeker added 3.

Middle school teams get wins

The Cassville Middle School boys basketball teams continued their strong conference play last week with wins over Lamar and Seneca. The seventh-grade team opened the week with a solid 32-22 victory over Lamar. Cassville followed that performance with a dominant showing against Seneca, earning a 45-13 win by applying defensive pressure and converting scoring opportunities throughout the game. The eighth-grade squad also put together an impressive week. Cassville defeated Lamar 41-28 before closing the week with a commanding 47-8 win over Seneca. The Wildcats controlled the tempo in both games, using balanced scoring and strong team defense to secure the victories. With the two wins, the seventh-grade team now stands at 6-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play. The eighth-grade team improves to 7-1 on the season and remains undefeated in conference action at 3-0 coming into this week.

Lady Trojans take Lady Bear Classic title

The Southwest girls basketball team (14-4) took the top prize at the Lady Bear Classic last week, besting Exeter, 50-25, Galena, 59-18, and Verona, 50-20. The championship performance extended the Lady Trojans’ win streak to seven, dating back to Jan. 6. Southwest was scheduled to host Billings (with Hurley) on Monday, and will host East Newton on Friday this week.

Trojans riding 3-game streak

The Southwest boys basketball team (6-11) is looking to extend a three-game win streak this week. On Thursday, the Trojans bested Golden City, 78-68, moving the streak to three after wins over Sarcoxie, 60-57, and Verona, 74-32, the week prior. Southwest was schedule to play Lighthouse on Tuesday, and the Trojans will host Purdy on Feb. 3.

Wheaton boys string together wins

The Wheaton boys basketball team (9-8) is riding a three-game wave after getting a 66-30 win over Hurley on Friday, adding to wins over Thomas Jefferson and Northeast Vernon County the week prior. The Bulldogs were scheduled to host McAuley Catholic on Tuesday and will host New Heights Christian on Friday.

Lady Bulldogs entering home swing

The Wheaton girls basketball team (8-10), fell to Billings (with Hurley), 60-49, in its only game last week. The Lady Bulldogs entered a four-game home swing this week, scheduled to host McAuley Catholic on Tuesday and welcoming New Heights Christian this Friday. Wheaton will then host Southwest on Feb. 3 and School of the Ozarks on Feb. 6.

Purdy boys on the road this week

The Purdy boys basketball team (5-12) fell in its only contest last week to Sarcoxie, 52-44. The Eagles also play only one game this week, traveling to Lockwood on Friday.

Lady Eagles hitting the road

The Purdy girls basketball team (1-12) are looking to snap a six-game skid this week on the road. A Thursday road contest at Sarcoxie was postponed, the only game of the week for Purdy last week. The Lady Eagles were scheduled to play School of the Ozarks on Tuesday on the road, and will travel to Thomas Jefferson on Thursday before playing in the 43rd Annual Mercy/Warrior Classic Feb. 2-7.

Exeter girls split games in Lady Bear Classic

The Exeter girls basketball team (5-10) lost a game and won a game at the Lady Bear Classic last week. The Lady Tigers fell to Southwest, 50-25, then bested Verona, 63-54. Exeter plays at McAuley Catholic on Friday, then in the 43rd Annual Mercy/Warrior Classic Feb. 2-7.

Tigers look to snap skid

The Exeter boys basketball team (1-10) is hoping to snap a 7-game losing streak soon, but with tough competition on the schedule this week. Last week, the Tigers played just one game, an 83-24 loss to New Heights Christian. This week, Exeter is scheduled to play Golden City (13-4) and McAuley Catholic (11-6), both on the road. The Tigers play in the 43rd Annual Mercy/Warrior Classic Feb. 2-7.
