Two people were arrested on Jan. 13 following a McDonald County and Ozarks Drug Enforcement Team bust in Powell, just west of the Barry County line, that allegedly turned up nearly 9 pounds of methamphetamine.

Devin Black, born 1980, of Powell, and Dennis Wishon, born 1995, of Seneca, are each charged with first-degree drug trafficking.

According to a probable cause statement filed by Blake Barrett, deputy with the McDonald County Sheriff’s Office, at about 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 13, authorities went to the suspect’s address in Powell to serve a narcotics warrant. A press release from McDonald County Sheriff Rob Evenson said law enforcement had received information Black had allegedly returned to her residence the day before with four pounds of methamphetamine.

Upon arrival, Barrett said three people were arrested outside a bus in which Black was living. Evenson’s release said more individuals fled the scene.

After starting a search of the bus, Barrett said he located two clear baggies allegedly containing a white crystal substance weighing 32 grams. While searching, a backpack was located outside next to Wishon, which allegedly contained multiple clear gallon-size bags with a white crystal substance, in total weighing 3,722 grams, or 8.3 pounds.

Barrett said while interviewing Wishon, he allegedly stated Black had just traveled to Oklahoma City and brought the substance back to the house. He said when law enforcement arrived, he grabbed the bag and ran trying to not get her in trouble.

According to Evenson’s release, after the residence was secured, authorities conducted an extensive search of the property, utilizing foot patrols and drones in the wooded area. Wishon was located hiding in the woods with the backpack.

As part of the search, Evenson said law enforcement also allegedly recovered 22 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, eight unidentified pills and various items of drug paraphernalia.

Barrett noted that Black has multiple felony convictions from different states, including possession of a controlled meth, failure to appear on a felony and possession of fentanyl in Arkansas, as well as possession with intent to deliver or sell in Tennessee.

Black and Wishon are both being held in the McDonald County jail on no bond.
