District volleyball brackets take shape
All five local high schools will see their volleyball teams on the court with their seasons on the line on Tuesday, as district tournament brackets have been released.
Cassville, in the Monett-hosted Class 3, District 12 tournament, earned the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 Aurora on Tuesday. The Lady Wildcats and Lady Houn’ Dawgs met for the first time this season on Tuesday, with the result not available at presstime.
The winner of the district opener, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, will face No. 1 Mt. Vernon, who received a bye. At the bottom of the bracket, No. 2 Monett received a bye and will face the winner of No. 3 East Newton and No. 6 Seneca, a matchup set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Semifinals are at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Oct. 23, and the championship is at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 25.
Southwest and Purdy are both in Class 2, District 11, and the tournament will be held in Miller.
On Tuesday, No. 5 Southwest will take on No. 4 Sarcoxie at 5:30 p.m., with the winner to face No. 1 Miller at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. No. 6 Purdy faces No. 3 Pierce City at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, with the winner battling No. 2 Diamond at 7 p.m. Thursday. The championship game is set for 6 p.m. on Oct. 28.
Exeter and Wheaton are both in Class 1, District 9, and that tournament will be held in Blue Eye.
On Tuesday, No. 4 Wheaton will face No. 5 Verona at 7 p.m., with the winner taking on No. 1 Blue Eye at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 22. No. 2 Billings meets No. 7 Hurley at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, followed by No. 3 Galena and No. 6 Exeter. Winners of those bouts square off at 7 p.m. on Oct. 22 in the semifinals, and the championship game is set for Oct. 23 at 5:30 p.m.
