Conference double!

The Southwest Middle School track and field teams turned in a season to be remembered this spring.

Through eight total meets, there were 237 medals awarded — almost double from last year — and 10 records broken. Both teams also ran away with SouthWest Central League Conference championships.

‘I can’t begin to express how proud I am of each and every single athlete on the team,’ said Coach Drew Farrer. ‘The amount of hard work they put in, the amount of support they had for each other, and the amount of commitment each one had, is unmatched. I told them at the beginning of the season that no one is going to work as hard as them, and it’s going to show whenever we go into meets and we’re blowing the competition away — which is exactly what happened.’

The girls team consisting of 7 seventh-graders and 3 sixth-graders, were untouchable on the track. ‘They started the season at Diamond with a win and a statement made to everyone else that they are here to win,’ Farrer said. ‘The girls continued their season winning again at Spokane, Blue Eye, and dominating the field in the Southwest Central League Conference, winning by 93 points.’

The boys team consisting of 3 sixth-graders, 3 seventh-graders and 6 eighth-graders were also very successful and consistent throughout the season.

‘The boys got wins at Blue Eye and blew the competition away at the Conference Meet, winning by 161 points,’ Farrer said. ‘I always say at the end of the season that I wish there was more for us to do. These young athletes deserve to be recognized for their hard work and dedication. It has been an honor and privilege to coach these young athletes and I cannot wait to coach them again and also watch them grow into successful young men and women.’
