Pick a bag of weeds — get hot dog and drink!
The Barry County Community Garden invites the community to lend a hand and enjoy a free lunch during its fall cleanup event.
“Volunteers of all ages are welcome,” a press release from the organization said. “Grab a bag, pull some weeds, and help clean up the garden beds and surrounding areas. When your bag is filled, enjoy a hot dog and a drink on us.”
This event, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the garden, located at 10160 Farm Road 2160 in Cassville, is a great opportunity for families, students, community groups, Master Gardeners, and anyone who enjoys spending time outdoors while supporting a local project.
“No gardening experience is necessary,” the release said. “There will be plenty of simple jobs, and even an hour of your time can make a difference. If you can’t help in the garden just come out and visit!”
The Barry County Community Garden grows fresh vegetables for people in the community and depends on volunteers to keep it productive. Much of the produce harvested is donated to help provide fresh food to local residents.
Fall cleanup helps prepare the garden for winter and gives the garden a better start when planting begins again in the spring. It is also a chance to gather with neighbors and celebrate another growing season.
“Bring your family, bring a friend, and bring gardening gloves if you have them,” the release said. “We will provide the bags, supplies, hot dogs, and drinks. Come for an hour or stay for the afternoon. Every bag of weeds pulled helps make the Barry County Community Garden a better place for our entire community.”
