Cassville man killed in big rig wreck

Vehicle swerves in front of Freightliner west of Purdy

A Cassville man died on Thursday in a wreck at 1:36 p.m. on Route B, one mile west of Purdy.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, a 30-year-old Cassville man was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Impala westbound when his vehicle swerved into the lane of a 2013 Freightliner Cascadia, being driven by a 52-year-old Monett man, striking the big rig headon.

The 30-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene by Barry County Coroner Gary Swearingen at 3:38 p.m. He was transported to Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. The 52-yearold man was not injured.

The 30-year-old was not wearing a safety device, and the 52-year-old was. The Chevrolet was totaled, and the Freightliner sustained extensive damage.

This is the 92nd fatality of 2025 for Troop D of the Patrol, which covers 18 counties in southwest Missouri.
