A Washburn man is facing a felony charge after allegedly stealing a motorcycle from a victim in Barry County.
Jacob Weigel, born 1991, of Washburn, is charged with stealing a motor vehicle.
According to a probable cause statement filed by Det. Abby Parsons, with the Barry County Sheriff’s Office, on June 30, Deputy Mike McGuire took a report for a stolen 2016 Honda CTX700D from a business in Barry County.
Through investigation, it was determined the stolen motorcycle had gone to a convenience store in Eagle Rock, and video footage from the store showed the stolen motorcycle and a white SUV parked at the pumps, where two males were observed on camera at about 3:04 a.m.
McGuire spoke with a witness, who said he and Weigel were at the store with a motorcycle and showed McGuire pictures of the bike he had taken. McGuire determined the motorcycle was the one reported stolen.
Video footage from the store at 5:08 p.m. the same day allegedly showed Weigel riding the bike.
McGuire said Weigel fled from law enforcement at the time of his arrest, and he has failed to appear at previous court hearings. Pending charges include stealing and resisting arrest, and prior convictions include first-degree property damage and stealing.
Weigel is being held in the Barry County jail on a cash-only bond of $25,000 for the stealing a motor vehicle charge. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Aug. 14 in the courtroom of Judge Robert Foulke.
