Glen Garrett

Glen Garrett, 93, passed away peacefully in his home on May 26, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Glen, son of John and Sara (Caudle) Garrett, was born on July 6, 1931, in Butterfield. He was a man of great faith and had been saved and baptized at an early age. Glen and his brother grew up helping their father in his machine shop in Butterfield and he was a graduate of the 1949 class of Butterfield High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran having entered the service in 1951 and serving in Germany. He was a lifelong resident of Barry County, having resided in Butterfield, and Purdy, and was a Hereford cattle rancher. Glen was instrumental in several businesses, including but not limited to, Garrett Manufacturing in Cassville, which was initially intended to be the satellite location for Caterpillar; Tri-State Motor Transit Co. in Joplin; five locations of the First State Bank; and the Oak Star Banks in Southwest Missouri.
Glen served on many boards throughout his life including the Purdy School Board which was very important to him, and the Barry County Industrial Board; was a member of the Monett Chamber of Commerce; and attended the First United Methodist Church in Monett. He was involved with the building of the Cassville and Monett Library and the First United Methodist Church in Monett; helped with the beautification and revitalization of Monett; and was involved in the Drury College Building Fund in Monett.
Glen received the Missourian of the Year award in 2009. He was an avid follower of all sports including the Kansas City Chiefs and the sports programs of the Purdy School District. In his later life, the Terry family was very important to him.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean “Jeanne” (Terry) Garrett; two sons, Filip Garrett and his wife Debbie, of Springfield, and John Garrett and his wife Vicki of South Port, South Carolina; two daughters, Sara Garrett of Springfield, and Ida Garrett of Springfield; three step-sons, Scott Seitz of Kansas City, Jeff Scott and his wife Jessica of Purdy, and Rick Scott and his wife Lisa of Purdy; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin Garrett.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31st at Arnhart Baptist Church in Purdy with Cliff Crockett officiating. Burial followed at Arnhart Cemetery. The family received friends on Friday, May 30th at White Funeral Home and Crematory.
Memorials may be made to the Glen Garrett Scholarship Fund at the Purdy School District.
Arrangements are under the direction of the White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville, Mo.
