For three individual thinclads and one relay team, qualification to the Class 3 2025 Track and Field Championship is within grasp.
At the Class 3, District 6 Meet in Lamar on Saturday, Aaliyah Franklin qualified to the Class 3 Sectional 3 in two events, shot put and discus; Evelyn Elliott qualified in the 100-meter dash; Corbin Rhoads qualified in the pole vault; and qualifying in the boys 4×100 relay was the team of Mace Bredeson, Kyle Bailey, Kamden Beebe and Jacob Walker.
Franklin took second in discus with a throw of 33.83 meters, as well as third in the shot put with a mark of 10.93 meters. The discus winner threw a 34.98, and the shot put winner an 11.25.
Elliott finished in second place with a time of 12.95 seconds, just .08 ahead of third place and 0.46 behind the first-place finisher.
Rhoads cleared a height of 3.75 meters, good for third place and 0.37 meters below the winner.
The relay ream took the final sectional qualification slot in fourth place with a time of 44.26 seconds, 1.61 sections behind the winning team.
With only the top four placements qualifying to compete in Mountain Grove on Saturday, multiple events were left just outside the necessary mark. Shelby Knoefler took fifth in shot put, only 0.24 meters away from qualification; Jacob Walker was fifth in the 100-meter dash by a hair, only 0.01 seconds from fourth; Trever Garnett was 7 seconds off qualification in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:01; Preston Driskill was just 3 seconds back from qualification in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:44; and the boys 4×800 relay team of Driskill, Jameson Barnes, Jacob Hudson and Garnett ran an 8:57, which was 10 seconds behind fourth in a top-four group with a time spread of just 2.27 seconds.
Cassville’s sectional qualifiers will compete on Saturday in Mountain Grove, with the top four finishers earning tickets to state in Jefferson City on May 24.
