Wildcats take 11 medals at Big 8

The Cassville boys track and field team earned 11 individual medals and a 7th-place team finish at the Big 8 Conference meet Thursday in McDonald County. Individual results include:

Cassville girls compete in Big 8

The Cassville girls track and field team competed at the Big 8 Conference meet Thursday in McDonald County. finishing 7th as a team and earning 10 individual medals. Individual results include:

Cassville snaps 5-game skid

The Cassville baseball team (6-9-1) broke a 5-game losing steak Friday with a 6-2 victory over Hollister. The Wildcats had previously fallen to Lamar, 11-4; Monett, 9-4; East Newton, 4-0; Diamond, 10-6; and Nevada, 6-0. Cassville travels to Aurora today (Wednesday) and hosts Reeds Spring Thursday. An away contest at McDonald County Friday and home game against Blue Eye on Monday wrap up the regular season. Class 4, District 11 seeds have yet to be determined. he tournament is May 15-24 in Monett.

Lady Eagles win SWCL title

The Purdy softball team (16-7) cruised to a SouthWest Central League title on Saturday, defeating Galena, 15-0, in the semifinals and Southwest, 11-1, in the conference championship. The pair of wins extended the Lady Eagles win streak to six games. Purdy traveled to Jasper on Tuesday and host Galena in the Class 1, District 5 tournament at 2 p.m. on Friday.

Tigers 5-2 in last seven

The Exeter baseball team (9-6) is 5-2 in its last seven contests, including a game where 43 runs were plated. The Tigers defeated Galena 23-20 on April 14, then bested Wheaton, 9-8; Blue Eye, 9-8; and McAuley Catholic, 9-3. A pair of back-to-back losses came on the road at McAuley Catholic, 13-2, and New Heights Christian Academy, 4-1. Then, Exeter defeated Verona, 12-2, on April 28. The Tigers are playing in the Miller Invitational this week, then travel to Wheaton Monday and host Hurley Tuesday in the regular-season finale. The Class 1, District 5 tournament seeds are yet to be determined. The tournament will be May 15-23 in Billings.

Exeter softball on 5-game run

The Exeter softball team (12-10) is on a five-game winning streak as of Monday morning. The Lady Tigers have defeated Galena, 16-0; Wheaton, 12-1; New Heights Christian Academy, 11-2; Verona, 16-1; and Wheaton again, 10-5 in extra innings. Exeter traveled to Lockwood on Monday and hosted Lamar on Tuesday, with results not available at presstime. Exeter faces Verona in the Class 1, District 5 tournament on Friday at 5 p.m. in Purdy.
