Sales tax totals mixed in April
Sales tax receipts to Barry County cities and county government bodies in April, while generally flat or marginally lower, received a big boost from Monett that pushed totals to a respectable 5% overall gain, not counting the local use taxes.
Receipts from four of the seven Barry County cities collecting sales tax dropped, but total collections were up by 6%.
Cassville saw revenues from its four sales taxes drop for the third time in four months. The city’s 1% tax supporting its general fund received $103,313.60, down $1,805.69 from a year ago. While that drop rippled across all four of Cassville’s taxes, receipts from the use tax rose by more than $7,000.
On balance, then, including the use tax, Cassville’s tax revenues for the month rose by nearly 4%. General fund receipts for the year are up by more than $9,000.
Seligman’s 1% general fund receipts fell after two months of solid gains. The general fund received $11,032.41, down $2,042.16, or 16%, though it was the fourth highest April on record. For 2025, Seligman’s general fund is up by nearly $3,000 over last April.
Wheaton’s erratic 1% sales tax pulled in $6,066.57, up $1,308.59, or more than 27% from a year ago. The sum was almost 60% higher than the half-cent tax, instead of 50%. It was the third general fund gain in four months for Wheaton, putting the 2025 total up more than $3,000 above last year’s pace.

Monett’s two sales taxes totaling 1% for paying general bills generated $193,200.70 in April, the third consecutive triple-digit boost, up 14% from a year ago.
Monett’s five sales taxes took in nearly $51,500 more in April than a year ago, boosting receipts for countywide taxes as well. Including the use tax, Monett receipts for the month were up by more than $76,000, or 17% from last April. For the year, Monett’s tax receipts are up by more than $140,000, or 7%.
Countywide taxes benefited from this increase. Barry County’s two older .5% sales taxes for general expenses and road maintenance each took in $215,183, up $8,386 from last April. Receipts for the general fund in 2025 are up over last year’s pace by almost $25,000.
Likewise, the separate .375% sales tax supporting 911 and central dispatching brought in $161,385.36 in April, up
