Jig On the Water, April 7

April 7, 2024

Roaring River is still clear and running 77 CFS.

This is good water flow. Dry fly fishing has been great, and the nymphing is very good. Lots of people were throwing streamers this weekend and were having pretty good results. Using 7X is best for drys, and 6X is good for nymphs right now, I’m using 5X or 4X on the bigger streamers.

Plastic worms and the power bait grubs were great this past week, and the family fishin’ eggs in the natural fish oil were good all week.

In zone 3, the white power bait paste was working well. Little crankbaits were working well, and the rebel crawfish was very effective this past week.

Marabou jigs were as good as ever. The very small ones fished under an indicator were good all week, but the heavier ones worked great in the middle of the day, fished slow and deep.

Wooly bugger jigs, and micros are still doing very well.

Spinners were good all week, best early in the morning, and darker colors were best.

Two-pound line is still your best bet for catching a lot of trout, if you only fish the first hour or so you can probably get by with four-pound.

Good luck this week.
