Wildcats again finish 5th

The Cassville boys basketball team (8-11) took fifth place in its second consecutive tournament recently, and the Wildcats are heading into Big 8 Conference play. Cassville opened the 39th Annual Spokane Invitational Jan. 16-20 with a loss to Strafford, 66-49. However, the Wildcats bounced back against Reeds Spring with a 66-53 win, the first against the Wolves after three straight losses. The Wildcats wrapped up the tournament with a 63-52 victory over Southwest to win the consolation bracket. Cassville fell to McDonald County on Jan. 23 and faced East Newton on the road Tuesday. After a road game at Nevada Friday, the Wildcats return home for a three-game swing against Lamar Tuesday, Monett Feb. 9 and Aurora Feb. 13.

Cassville girls 2-3 in last two weeks

The Cassville girls basketball team (8-10) has won two of five games since Jan. 16 and took sixth place at the Marionville Lady Comet Classic Jan. 16-20. The Lady Wildcats fell to host Marionville, 55-35, then defeated Spokane, 52-31. In the fifth-placer game, Cassville fell, 52-46. On Jan. 23 and 25, Cassville split wins, falling to McDonald County, 59-33, then defeating East Newton, 48-37. The Lady Wildcats were on the road Monday at Southwest and home Tuesday against Springfield Central. The Lady Wildcats host Monett next on Monday.

Exeter 5th at Patriot Winter Games

The Exeter boys basketball team (5-12) has won three of its last five and took fifth place at the Patriot Winter Games Jan. 18-20. The Tigers opened the tournament with a 53-24 loss to School of the Ozarks, then rebounded with a 48-24 victory over RUSH Sr. Home School. Exeter finished the tournament with a win over Galena, 54-38. On Jan. 23 and 26, the Tigers defeated Golden City, 56-41, then fell to McAuley Catholic, 51-17. The Tigers enter a five-game home swing this week, beginning with a Friday matchup with Sheldon.

Lady Tigers alternate results

The Exeter girls basketball team (5-8) have traded wins and losses over the last two weeks. At the Galena Lady Bear Winter Classic Jan. 18-20, the Lady Tigers took sixth after a loss to Fordland, 71-33, victory over Galena, 44-17, then loss to RUSH Sr. Home School, 68-46. On Jan. 25 and 26, Exeter defeated Lighthouse Sr. High, 46-42, then fell to McAuley Catholic, 46-38. The Lady Tigers have five consecutive home games on the horizon, beginning Friday with a matchup against Sheldon.

Lady Trojans look to snap streak

The Southwest girls basketball team (1-18) is seeking to snap a seven-game winless streak in coming contests. The Lady Trojans fell on the road Jan. 24 and 25 to Verona, 56-33, and Spokane, 66-56. Southwest hosted Cassville on Monday and hits the road for three games going forward, Galena on Frida, Blue Eye on Monday and Wheaton on Feb. 8.

Bulldogs’ streak snapped

The Wheaton boys basketball team (12-7) saw its four-game win streak end on Friday with a 70-49 loss to conference power College Heights Christian. Wheaton traveled to district foe Blue Eye on Tuesday and will host Pierce City on Thursday.

Eagles work to snap slump

The Purdy boys basketball team (6-13) aims to snap a four-game skid in coming contests, having lost to Blue Eye, 53-49, on Jan. 23, and Lockwood, 58-37, on Jan. 26. Purdy was on the road Tuesday at Southwest and will host Crane on Friday.
