An officer and a detective at the Cassville Police Department were recognized at the August Cassville City Council meeting for commendable actions and dedication to duty.

Officer Matt Hoover received an America’s Real Hometown Hero Award, and Det. Stuart Lombard was issued a letter of commendation.

On April 22, Hoover, accompanied by Lombard, was dispatched to a local residence for a structure fire. Upon arrival, officers found the living room full of smoke and were advised an elderly female was still inside the home.

“Officer Hoover immediately made entry into the residence, located the female, who was bent down on the couch, and pulled the female out of the residence, where she was immediately loaded into an awaiting ambulance,” the award said. “Office Hoover, your commendable actions demonstrated a valuable public safety service provided to a local citizen. Thank you for your quick, altruistic response.”

Lombard was subsequently recognized with a letter of commendation for continued dedication through the months CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1A

of May, June and July, where the city saw an influx of major crimes. Incidents Lombard investigated included the disappearance of Dr. John Forsyth, found dead in Beaver Lake 12 days later, and the alleged stabbing death of Andey Hunter on Old Highway 37.

“Detective Lombard did not let this affect how he responded to and handled the calls and investigations,” the letter said. “During this period of increased scrutiny, Detective Lombard maintained the greatest level of integrity, representing the Cassville Police Department, the City of Cassville and the entire community with his proficiency. Since the calls, Detective Lombard continues to work diligently on putting reports together for the prosecutor’s office, along with overseeing the continued progress of the evidence room.

“Detective Lombard has shown the kind of dedication we look for at the Cassville Police Department, and I want to personally thank him for his professional service. Office Lombard, you have demonstrated exemplary dedication and commitment in performing your duties for the Cassville Police Department.”

The letter and the America’s Real Hometown Hero Award were both signed by Donald Privett, interim police chief.
