Voting equipment to be tested in November

Barry County Clerk, Joyce Ennis, reports a public pre-election tabulation test of the electronic tabulating equipment for the Nov. 8 General Election. It will be held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 1 in the County Clerk’s Office.

Farm Road 2040 bridge closed for repair

The Capps Creek Road District bridge on Farm Road 2040, west of the Polanski Catholic Church, will be closed for repairs until further notice.

Vincent Reunion scheduled for Sunday

The Vincent Reunion will be held Sunday at the JQH Community Center in Fairview. The building will be open approximately from 10:30 a.m to 4 p.m. A potluck dinner will serve at about 1 p.m. Door prizes will be awarded, and contributions are appreciated.

Silent auction benefits Bright Futures

A silent auction is set for Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., coinciding with the Chili and Salsa Cook-Off and raising funds for the Cassville Bright Futures Program. Five pieces of furniture, refinished by Cassville art teachers and students during summer school, will be auctioned, and winners must retrieve the items by 2 p.m. Furniture includes a table with four chairs, a rolltop desk, two side tables and an outdoor glider.

Southwest NHS hosts elementary pumpkin carving contest

The Southwest High School Chapter of National Honor Society is hosting a pumpkin decorating/carving contest for elementary students in late October. The contest features five categories, including: scary/ monster, cute/pretty, animal, funny/goofy and creative/ interesting. All students who participate will receive a small bag of candy, with the top winners in every category receiving a grand prize. Pumpkins can be turned in as early as Oct. 25. All pumpkins must turned in and decorated by judging day on Oct. 27. Winners will be announced Oct. 28. Pool hall hosting weekly live concerts

H&H Pool Hall in Cassville, housed in the old American Legion building, is hosting live music on Saturday nights in October, culminating with a Halloween Costume Party on Oct. 28. Performers include: Shane Hilburn and Band on Oct. 22 at 8 p.m., and 221 Band on Oct. 28 at 8 p.m., coinciding with the costume party. There will be a minimum $5 cover charge. All ages are welcome for the Oct. 8, 15 and 22 shows, but the Oct. 28 Halloween Costume Party is 18-and-up. Pool tables will be available for use on all nights. Food, nonalcoholic and some alcoholic drinks are available.

Exeter NHS hosts blood drive

Exeter’s National Honor Society will be hosting a blood drive with the theme “Get in the Game for Life; Give Blood.” The blood drive will take place today (Wednesday) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A Kansas City Chiefs Theme is the T-shirt design for this event. Photo identification is required and remember to eat well and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating.

Craft Fair coming to Cassville

The Barry County Genealogical and Historical Society will host its inaugural Holiday Season Craft Fair on Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bayless/ Salyer House in Cassville. Absentee voting ongoing

Absentee voting for the Nov. 8 General Election runs through Nov. 7 at the Barry County Clerk’s Office in Cassville, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Two weeks of in-person, no-excuse absentee voting begin Oct. 25. If unable to vote in person, a voter may send a written request to the office of: Joyce Ennis, 700 Main St. Suite 2, Cassville, MO, 65625; or fax to: 417-847-5311. The Office will need: Voter’s name, physical address, mailing address, date of birth, last four digits of Social Security number, phone number, reason for voting absentee and signature. Those who live in the Shell Knob or Monett areas can go to the Shell Knob Chamber or Monett Chamber and fill out the absentee application, and they will fax it to the Barry County Clerk’s office. Absentee applications are also available at sos.mo.gov.
