July 12, 1972

Mr. and Mrs. Charley Baker have purchased the Dairy Treet Drive-in in Cassville from Mr. and Mrs. Larry Rickman. The Bakers also have a bookkeeping service here. Mrs. Baker and their son, Alan, will be in charge of the Drive-in.

Magistrate Judge John Baty has been assigned additional duties in McDonald County by the Missouri Supreme Court due to the illness of Judge W.G. Tracy for an undetermined length of time. This will be in addition to his duties in Barry County.

Tic-Tac-Toe Discount Clothing and Dry Good Sales, owned by Jack Cox, has moved to a new location at Fisher Courts, between Cassville and Roaring River State Park.

According to statistics just released, Table Rock Lake attracted more tourists during the recent Forth of July weekend than any of the U.S. Corps of Engineers lakes and parks in the Little Rock, Ark., district, recording 334,900 visitors.

Tim Frye, a former Cassville resident and a graduate of the Class of 1971 at CHS who has been with the Federal Land Bank in St. Louis, will now join the bank staff at Commerce Bank of Barry County as an assistant vice president, according Bill Easley, bank president.

The Pee-Wee All-Star baseball players are ready for the summer season, according to coaches Danny Miller, Allen Sparks and Doug Samuel. Rainfall in June was 7.21 inches at the U.S. Forest Service. So far this year the ranger district has recorded 13.64 inches of rain.

Barry County Sheriff Ralph Hendrix and his deputies were able to take into custody two horse thieves and kidnappers. They had warrants out for them from Morgan County for unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and kidnapping. The men are also now being charged for stealing two horses from a place near Eagle Rock, according to Hendrix.

Dr. Richard Cozad, of Cassville, died June 24 after suffering a heart attack while golfing at the Cassville Golf Course. He was a member of the Cassville Church of Christ.

Jill LeCompte has received her master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Arkansas. She is a Cassville High School graduate, currently teaching at Purdy Schools.
