May 10, 1972

Cassville United Methodist Church pastor, Harold Hunter, who has been with the Cassville church for the past six years, has been granted retired status by the Missouri West Annual Conference of United Methodist Churches.

The highest music award presented to a Cassville High School senior, the John Philip Sousa award, went to Jim Justus during the spring concert Tuesday night. Presenting the award was band director John Knight.

Southwest High School will be graduating 37 seniors in Commencement ceremonies this year, according to Superintendent Gerald Casey. Honor students are Molly Roller, valedictorian, and Deloris Gundel, salutatorian.

Exeter High School will have 21 seniors graduating this year, according to Superintendent Don Parsons. Presenting the valedictory address will be Eldon McQueen. The salutatorian is Jeannie Moore.

Barry County Bank will be holding a Give-Away Drawing this Saturday to see who will receive a Free 1972 Vega.

May 5 1982

Cassville’s Cub Scout Pack 76 held their blue and gold banquet Thursday night. Cub Scouts recognized were Jeremy Jaques, Scott Thomas, Danny Olmstead, Joe Doty, Shannon Stewart, David Holdenda, Clint McCaslin, Louis Chapman, Harry Rich, Keats Quinalty and Scott Creech. The Cubmaster is Merle Rogers. The Pack is sponsored by First Christian Church, Cassville. Barry County turkey hunters report this season as

Barry County turkey hunters report this season as not one of the best. Conservation Agent Bill Stimson said a total of 75 birds had been checked in during the past two weeks.

An Eagle Rock native, Dr. Arzell Ball, has been named superintendent of schools at Richardson, Texas. Dr. Ball, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charley Ball of Eagle Rock, has been superintendent of schools at Shawnee Mission, Kan., for the past 13 years. A graduate of Cassville High School, Dr. Ball lost a leg from injuries suffered during World War II.

April 22, 1992

Cassville Senior Citizen Rental Housing Authority issued a work order this week to begin construction on an additional 12 units to be added to the present 28 units. President of the board of directors in Truman Baker and secretary of the Authority board is Shirley Keen.

Boatmen’s National Bank of Cassville started moving dirt this week on a project that will install a new 9,000 square-foot building for the financial institution’s mid-town location. According to Steve Burch, president, the construction will begin about May 15.

Cassville High School’s Entrepreneur Team ranked second in state competition this year. Team members are Tammy Cudney, Jay Duncan and Brandi Hayworth.
