The Cassville softball team’s season came to an end on Friday at the hands of Seneca, 1-0.

It’s one of the most widespread superstitions in soccer — a 2-goal lead is the worst lead to have. The Cassville boys soccer team (9-9-1 as of Friday) took a 2-0 lead into halftime against Monett Thursday in front of a record crowd, but ultimately allowed the Cubs to tie, and Monett’s goalkeeper saved a shot to hand the Wildcats a 3-2 loss on penalty kicks.

The Wildcats gave a full effort on Friday against a stout Lamar foe, falling 41-13. The Wildcats put up a defensive stand on Lamar’s first drive, forcing a fourth-and-11, but the Tigers’ quarterback scrambled 30 yards to the 6 and scored on the next play.

Getting back to the basics was the ticket to success for Cassville last week, and the Wildcats are hoping to take some confidence and momentum from a 45-0 win over Springfield Catholic back home for Senior nigh and a matchup with Lamar.

The Cassville cross country teams know their course well, as the Lady Wildcats took home a first place team trophy at the Cassville High School Cross Country Invitational on Oct. 4, and the boys finished in second.

The Southwest volleyball team will celebrate Volleyball Senior Night on Oct. 18 against Exeter. Games will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the junior varsity, followed by the varsity.
