Cassville youth battle for 3rd win of season
Cassville picked up a 22-6 win over East Newton on Friday, extending a two-decade win streak kept by institutional memory. Lance Parnell, Cassville athletic director, said he believes the last loss to the Patriots came in 2002, and Missouri State High School Sports Association records show 16 wins in a row, back to 2010.
Plucky Purdy pushes for wins
Purdy volleyball senior Rylee Stanford was in fourth grade the last time the Lady Eagles won a district title, and she and new Head coach Barry Wheeler aim to lead Purdy back to postseason glory and revive a program that has not had a winning season since 2015. Wheeler, who brings nearly four decades of club, high school and collegiate coaching experience to Purdy, said the Lady Eagles’ best quality this season is their effort on the floor.

The Southwest volleyball team picked up their second win last week but also lost their first SWCL Conference game. The Lady Trojans won at Gentry (Ark.) in four sets and fell to Spokane in three sets at home.

Clay Weldy, Cassville football coach, said Seneca is a force in the district, helped by Wildcat mistakes on Friday in a 44-0 Cassville loss on the road.

Less Hugheses, but not Hughes-less
Purdy fall baseball has begun, and fans of the Eagles will notice a major difference in this year’s roster — only one Hughes listed. For eight of the last nine years, Purdy Coach Joshua Hughes has had a son, or two, playing for him.
