Angela Brattin: Spring garden preparation is upon us
As a gardener, at the start of the New Year comes the hope of a fresh garden season. With a little planning and preparation before the daylight hours lengthen and the soil temperatures warm up, we can set ourselves up for a more productive garden season.

I got put on a sports assignment last week and who should I run into while under the basket? None other than Cassville Superintendent Merlyn Johnson, who was half the whistle for the Exeter Diamond matchup on Thursday. Here we see Dr.

Kyle Troutman: In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Though the snowy roadways would have canceled school and kept many others at home from work, Monday was a federal day off for another reason, the celebration of the Jan. 15, 1929, birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Sandi Massey: Repeated probation failing citizens
Since the election of our current prosecuting attorney, any concept of justice or safety in our community has been eliminated. The previous “home town” feeling of security, which allowed for unlocked doors, keys left in the ignition and letting ones children walk to school, the pool and the library unafraid is a thing of the past.

Michelle Hilburn: Reading for cheesy enjoyment
When I was a kid, I loved the Pizza Hut Book It program. It encompassed two of my childhood favorites — books and pizza.

Kyle Troutman: A tisket, a tasket, a city council packet

As we turn the page on the 2023 calendar, it is time for us at Cassville R-IV School District to begin preparing for our academic calendar for the 2024-2025 school year. Five years ago, our state legislators voted to require the school start date to be no earlier than 14 days prior to the first Monday in September.
Responding to God’s gifts, a look at Matthew 7:11
I would like to share an article from a guest writer for my turn at the devotional page this time. My wife, Jamie Fugitt, wrote this for a daily devotional publication.

I made my annual jaunt down to Southwest High School a couple times last week for the Annual Holiday Tournament, where I ran into none other than Announcr-DJ-Showman Jared Lankford. Southwest has enjoyed his services for the last many years, playing music, crowd games and announcing all three days of the annual event.
