Cassville Pantry highlights hunger advocacy
September is National Hunger Action Month, and there has never been a more critical time to advocate for the persons across the nation and within the Cassville community who are struggling with the issue of food insecurity.
Local districts see small decrease in first day numbers
Once again, students showed up for the first day of school last week. New shoes, backpacks and even some new faces filled the halls and classrooms as students were welcomed by teachers and staff for the 2022-2023 school year.

Pencils sharpened and backpacks on, students filed into the Cassville building and classrooms on Aug. 23 for the first day of school.
Sewer project moving along
The city of Wheaton has been working toward a sewer project and has secured funding to move forward.
Veterans to fish for free at Roaring River State Park Sept. 17
The Missouri Department of Conservation and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Division of State Parks invite veterans and those currently in active military service to fish for free on Sept. 17 at Roaring River State Park’s Veterans’ Fishing Day.

Special to the Cassville Democrat A large group of divers affiliated with KISS Rebreathers were on hand Aug. 19 for the team’s first dive of the month into Roaring River Spring.
Wierman turns page on Democrat

All that will change Wednesday, as Wierman has decided to retire.
Hired under Owner/Editor Bob Mitchell, Wierman’s career has been marked by her tireless work ethic and her friend-to-all personality.

Original Washington quarter plaster models on display
A small but ubiquitous piece of American history will be on display this weekend at the Old Church Gallery near Shell Knob. Tom and Nancy Rochovansky, owners of the Gallery, are hosting a special display of the original plaster casts of the 1932 design of George Washington, used for a commemorative gold coin and son to be used on a new set of quarters.
Barry County E9-1-1 awarded for excellence
Barry County Emergency Services E9-1-1 has been recognized by The International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) as an Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE) for Emergency Police Dispatching (EPD). Barry County Emergency Services E9-1-1 is the 27th EPD ACE in the world.
Purdy returns to school
With various school improvement projects scheduled for work throughout the coming school year, Purdy has amended its car pick-up and drop-off routes. This year, parents and others picking kids up from school are being asked to enter onto Gabby Gibbons Drive on the east side of the campus.
