Ag Education is ‘On The Move’ at Southwest
Elementary students to learn about farming, livestock, more Missouri Farmers Care Foundation’s Agriculture Education on the Move (AEOTM) is excited to announce a partnership this fall with the Southwest FFA Chapter to educate third grade students about agriculture. AEOTM, a program of the Missouri Farmers Care Foundation, is a proactive, educational effort in which passionate, trained educators spend time in the classroom helping elementary students build agricultural literacy.

30 YEARS AGO: HALLOWEEN DISPLAY — Ghosts swing from the trees and a scarecrow sits sentinel in the yard at 1003 Townsend in Cassville. Gary and Sara Swearingen’s Halloween decorations cause many a driver to slow down as they pass by, especially when the Swearingen’s dog Radar is found napping in the scarecrow’s lap. Mr. Scarecrow is pictured above with three of his friends perched nearby. Clockwise, beginning at the left, are: Christopher Swearingen, the Swearingen’s 4 year old son; Justin Ramsey, 5, son of Roy and Vickie Ramsey of Exeter; and Mark Hitchcock, 4, son of Deanna Hitchcock of Cassville.

FFA Greenhands attend conference
The Cassville FFA Chapter had 32 Greenhands attend the Area 11 Greenhand conference at Crowder College in Neosho on Sept. 12. The attendees learned the importance of agriculture and FFA. They learned leadership opportunities, supervised agricultural experiences (SAE), and the FFA organization. A total of 528 Greenhands from around the area attended this conference to grow as ag students and to help the ag programs around Area 11 flourish. Freshmen Roper Taylor and Bradyn Alley both agreed they learned a lot about SAE’s. Roper also stated that he realized he already had multiple things that fit into the SAE part of FFA.

Marty Riley appointed to CS Bank Governing Board of Directors
Charlie Cross, CEO of CS Bank, is pleased to announce the appointment of Marty Riley to the local bank’s Governing Board of Directors. Riley is an insurance agent with Arkansas Farm Bureau in Berryville, Ark.

50 YEARS AGO: It was easy to tell the defensive backs from the linemen Friday night at Lamar. The backs had partly clean jerseys. This five-some was typical during one of their breaks late in the Big 10 contest played on a rain soaked field. From the left are: Mike Marshall, Hal Smith, Max Henbest, Rick Bratin and Tom Moss. Brattin for the second week got Wildcat of the week defensive honors in the game.
