Annual event to be held at Cassville United Methodist Church

Barry County Master Gardeners will host the annual fall workshop on Sept. 26 in Cassville. 

The event will be held at the Cassville United Methodist Church, located at 602 Gravel St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Speakers will address a variety of topics and there will be opportunities for questions from the audience. 

Deer a Problem

Heather Cross and her husband own Bear Creek Nursery in Eureka Springs where they are frequently asked, “I have a deer problem, what can I plant?” Heather will give us some suggestions for addressing this problem which many of us share. 

Gardening Vertically

If you are limited in growing space and plant very few veggies or nothing at all, Marie Ewing will explain vertical gardening which might be of interest to you, allowing a significant increase in your crop production in a small space. Marie is a member of Master Gardeners of the Ozarks in Stone and Taney Counties.

Do you ever wonder what health benefits gardening might provide? Besides having fresh produce with you in control of chemical product applications, there are many less obvious but very interesting ways that gardening enhances our brain and mental health. Joyce Weinsheimer is a retired educator and a Master Gardener who especially enjoys the company of her two dogs in the garden.

Pest Management in the Vegetable Garden

Matthew Huchteman is the University of Missouri Extension Agent in Jasper County and he loves growing vegetables. Speaking from his own experience, he brings us methods for dealing with garden pests that he finds successful in his own garden.

“For your enjoyment, we will provide snacks, drinks and door prizes,” a Master Gardeners press release said. “We ask you to preregister so that we can adequately provide for everyone attending. We welcome all gardeners, novice or expert, join us for an informative and fun morning.”
