Local author pens A.I. love story

PAH Publishing has announced the release of ‘K.A.R.E.N. 5.0,’ an electrifying science-fiction novel that blurs the line between artificial intelligence and human emotion.
Written by author Paul Adam Herd, a former Cassville resident now living in Monett, this gripping story follows the birth of Karen — a bio-printed being engineered from living tissue — and her quest for love, identity and the true meaning of life.
Karen’s creator, renowned geneticist Dr. Cooper Barnes, never expected his masterpiece to feel. When Karen awakens, she discovers not only consciousness but a deep, unexpected love for the man who gave her life.
As Karen and Dr. Barnes navigate the fragile dance of romance and self-discovery, a covert government agent races to classify her as a threat and terminate her existence. Or is he after Dr. Barnes, or something else deep inside of Karen, that even she doesn’t know about?
“’K.A.R.E.N. 5.0′ reaches into our deepest hopes and fears about technology and humanity,” Herd said. “It will make you look at A.I. like you have never seen it before.
‘Karen is not a robot, but she is flesh and blood, and it asks us: if we can breathe life into artificial creations, do they deserve the same rights — and the same chances at love — that we do? Is she human? Does she have a soul? You will find those answers in ‘K.A.R.E.N. 5.0.” Herd is a publisher and author based in Monett, known for his many different styles of writing from classic cars to mysteries.
‘But ‘K.A.R.E.N 5.0′ is his best yet, with a story written from today’s headlines, that everyone is talking about,’ a PAH Publishing press release said.
‘K.A.R.E.N. 5.0’ will be released on Nov. 28. and will be available on Amazon and from the publisher’s website.
