The Southwest volleyball team finished third in the 10-team Verona Tournament Saturday. The Lady Trojans defeated Golden City, Gloria Deo Academy and tied Thomas Jefferson before losing to Lockwood and Galena, who played for the championship. The girls lost in straight sets to Marionville Thursday in the season opener at home, then won a 5-set marathon at Wheaton Friday night, securing the victory 18-16 in the decisive game. Southwest played seven games in a 48-hour span and emerged with a 3-3-1 record. Members of the team include: Abi Hnem, Lexie Walker, Emily Brooks, Marissa Freeman, Paula Callison, Holley Montondo, Emma Outhouse, Olivia Hnem, and Addison Parker.
