A one-acre grass fire on Highway Y was contained and extinguished last week.

According to a Cassville Fire Protection District report, on Sept. 2 at 5:30 p.m., crews were paged to an outside fire on Highway Y. Chief Derek Acheson arrived on scene to find about one acre of grass on fire, slow-moving.

Acheson contacted the landowner to confirm access to the field, and two brush trucks arrived on scene to begin fire attack. An engine was stages at Farm Road 1120 and Highway Y for water supply.

Once the fire was extinguished, all fire personnel cleared the scene and returned to service.

The report said the owner had a small trash pile burnt on Sept. 1 that was believed to be extinguished. The fire appeared to have originated in that area.

Crews arrived on scene at 5:36 p.m., and the fire was controlled by 5:56 p.m. The scene was cleared at 6:09 p.m.

‘Even with the little bit of moisture we’ve had, we are still pretty dry,’ Acheson said. ‘We can’t stress enough on careful burning and having a water source if you do burn.’
