Vehicle lost control, overturned on private land

A Washburn child died as a result of injuries from an ATV wreck on May 14 at 12:07 p.m. on private land, five miles northwest of Washburn.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report and the family, a 12-year-old male, of Washburn, was driving a 2019 Can-Am Commander westbound on private land when the vehicle lost control and overturned.

The driver was transported by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Springfield and was pronounced deceased at 11:37 p.m. on May 15 at Mercy in Springfield.

He was wearing a safety device, and the vehicle sustained minor damage.
