Verona woman injured in Hwy. 39 wreck

A Verona woman was injured and the driver of another vehicle arrested following a wreck on Aug. 3 at 3:35 p.m. on Highway 39, one mile north of Shell Knob.

According to a Missouri State Highway patrol report, Patricia Birk, 67, of Verona, was driving a 2022 Mitsubishi Mirada northbound and was making a right turn when her vehicle was struck in the rear by a 1997 Toyota Camry, being driven by Thomas Blalack, 26, of Shell Knob.

Birk suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Aurora. Blalack was not injured.

Birk was wearing a safety device, and Blalack was not. The Mitsubishi sustained moderate damage, and the Toyota sustained extensive damage.

According to a Patrol arrest report, Blalack was arrested at 4:31 p.m. for felony driving while intoxicated and no seat belt. He was released from the Barry County jail at 11:27 p.m. Thursday.
