Middle school teams top seeds in Big 8

Cassville Middle School boys basketball teams finished the regular season strong this week and carried their momentum into the opening round of the Big 8 Tournament. In their final two regular season games, both teams earned wins over Monett and Nevada. The eighth-grade Wildcats defeated Monett, 47-32, and followed with a 52-31 victory over Nevada. The seventh-grade team also swept the week, earning a 41-11 win over Monett and a 51-19 victory against Nevada. With the wins, both teams completed conference play undefeated and secured the No. 1 seeds in the Big 8 Tournament. Cassville continued its strong play in Saturday’s opening round of tournament action. The eighth-grade team defeated Nevada, 51-19, while the seventh-grade squad earned a 47-10 victory over Monett to advance. Following this week’s action, the eighth-grade team improves to 14-1 on the season, and the seventh-grade team moves to 12-3. Round two of the Big 8 Tournament continued on Monday with the eighth-grade playing in Monett and the seventh-grade competing in Mt. Vernon. Results were not available as of presstime.
