James Sherman “Jim” Young

James Sherman “Jim” Young, age 78, of Washburn, Mo., passed away Friday, December 26, 2025, at his home.
He was born June 23, 1947, in Paola, Kan., the son of Sherman and Mary (Linville) Young, who preceded him in death.
Also preceding him in death was his wife, Sharon “Gayle” Young; brother, Sam Young; sister, Margaret Ivey; brothers-in-law, Richard Dyer and Earl Ivey, and stepsister, Sharon Jones.
Survivors include his sons, Scott Young and wife Sheryl of Washburn, Clint Maddox and wife Tammy of Washburn and Dave Stover and wife Sandy of Seligman; daughter, Shawna Young of Washburn; brother, William Young and wife Sue of Purcellville, Va.; sisters, Sharon Dyer of Atchison, Kan., and Sue Henson and husband Dewey of Springdale, Ark.; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; honorary children, Santana Hobbs, Rusty Cornelius, Brandon Deschane, Brian Robbins, Eric Bernard and Shannon Davis; five honorary grandchildren; 10 honorary great-grandchildren.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, a second Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart. He owned and operated Sports World, AAA Trophies, Jim Young Trucking and Young Construction. He was a lifelong Barry County resident.
Services were held Friday, January 2, 2026, at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Reverend Dale Keel conducted the services. Burial will be at Hickman Cemetery in Washburn, Mo.
