John Richard Woolis, 91, of Shell Knob, Mo., passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, in Springfield, Mo. 

Born on December 23, 1933, in Columbus, Kan., the son of Richard W. Woolis and Letha (Williams) Woolis, who preceded himin death.

Also preceding him in death was his wife, Velma (Newport) Woolis and two daughters, Cynthia Caudell and Elizabeth “Beth” Culver.

Survivors include his son-in-law, Richard Nimmo of Derby, Kan.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He grew up in Columbus, where he also received his education, graduating from Columbus High School. 

He dedicated many years to Boeing Airplane Manufacture as a spray painter. In 1992, John and Velma embraced a new chapter of their lives, retiring to Shell Knob, Mo. 

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 5, 2025, at Lake Park Memorial Gardens in Shell Knob, Mo., under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Joe Evans will conduct the service.
