Wildcats win medals at East Newton, Clever

The Cassville boys track and field team secured a dozen medals at the East Newton meet on Thursday, including one first place. Kyle Bailey took the 100-meter dash in 12.20 seconds, and Preston Driskill finished runner-up in the 3200-meter run. The Wildcats also competed in the Clever meet on April 15. Full results include:

‘Cats at 5-6-1

The Cassville baseball team fell to 5-6-1 last week with a pair of losses, one at home and one on the road. The Wildcats dropped a home game to Lamar, 11-4, on April 15, then traveled to Monett on Thursday, suffering a 9-4 loss.Cassville hosted East Newton Tuesday and travel to Aurora on Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.

Cassville bests Aurora, downed by Crocker

The Cassville girls soccer team (3-5-2) picked up a win and suffered a loss last week. On April 15, the Lady Wildcats bested Aurora, 3-2, in comeback fashion. Down 2-1 with 12 minutes on the clock, Lydia Cupps chipped the Lady Houn’ Dawgs keeper to tie the game, then goalkeeper and captain Ava Hinson netted the match winner off a Libby Corter throw-in with only 17 seconds remaining. Anabele Mills provided Cassville’s opening goal early in the first half. The win moved Cassville to 2-1 in Big 8 Conference matches. On Thursday, the Lady Wildcats dropped a 1-0 contest to Crocker on the road. Cassville played at Monett on Tuesday and will travel to New Covenant Academy on Thursday, with kick-off set for 4:30 p.m.

Eagles go 2-1 on week

The Purdy baseball team (10-5) picked up a pair of wins and dropped one contest last week, all on the road. On April 15, Purdy bested Crane, 12-1, and on Saturday, the Eagles fell to Liberal, 7-4, then defeated Galena (Kan.), 9-6. The Eagles hosted Jasper and Blue Eye Monday and Tuesday, respectively, and will nest host Seneca on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Lady Tigers bag 2 big wins

The Exeter softball team (8-8) moved to .500 on the season with two big wins last week. After falling to Clever, 8-4, on April 14, Exeter bested Galena, 16-0, on April 15, then Highway 86 rival Wheaton on Thursday, 12-1. The Lady Tigers hosted Pierce City on Monday and New Heights on Tuesday. They next face Verona on the road on Monday.

Wheaton streak ends at 3

The Wheaton softball team (8-4) saw a three-game win streak come to a halt at Exeter last week. The Lady Bulldogs had defeated Lighthouse, 15-0, on April 10, Verona, 18-2, on April 14, and Pierce City, 12-11, on April 15, before falling to Exeter on Thursday, 12-1. Wheaton next faces Golden City on Thursday at home.

Purdy splits contests

The Purdy softball team (10-7) split contests last week. On April 15, the Lady Eagles bested Hurley, 13-0, and two days later, they fell to Lamar, 10-9, both game being on the road. Purdy is in the midst of an eight-game road swing after playing Galena and Blue Eye on Tuesday. The Lady Eagles next face East Newton on the road on Thursday. The only remaining home contest of the regular season is on May 1 against New Heights.

The Cassville middle school track and field teams took part in the East Newton meet on April 15, with the eighth-grade boys taking second place in the team standings. Individual results include:
